SING NO EVIL – J.P AHONEN AND K.P ALARE

20702062Sing No Evil by J.P Ahonen and K.P Alare
Published by Harry N. Abrams
Genres: Graphic novels, Music, Fantasy, Horror, Fiction
For Fans of: Incredible art, stories that take you by surprise.
My Rating: 5 stars out of 5

Twenty-something guitarist Aksel stutters when he sings, and the latest reviews say he has the voice of a crow with throat plague. That’s not a compliment, even for the avant-garde music his band Perkeros plays. Aksel is having a hard time keeping the band together, stopping his girlfriend from kicking him out, and not getting eaten by his drummer (who happens to be a cranky brown bear). There are also the rival bands that Perkeros find themselves in battle with to save the city from supernatural forces set loose by ancient music. The key to it all could be in the music Aksel hears in his dreams—if it doesn’t drive him mad first. With a visual soundtrack that blasts off the page, Sing No Evil is a wild ride through otherworldly dangers and the power of pure rock’n’roll.

REVIVAL – STEPHEN KING

Revival - Stephen KingRevival by Stephen King
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
Ratings: 3.5/5
Genre: Horror, Fiction, Thriller
Post Book Thoughts: Holy heavens Mr. King could you just chill for a second!? (don’t really chill then we wouldn’t get books like this.. but still!!) What do they put in your water?!

In a small New England town, in the early 60s, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldier’s. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs Jacobs; the women and girls – including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister – feel the same about Reverend Jacobs. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond, based on their fascination with simple experiments in electricity.

Then tragedy strikes the Jacobs family; the preacher curses God, mocking all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.

Jamie has demons of his own. In his mid-thirties, he is living a nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll. Addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate, he sees Jacob again – a showman on stage, creating dazzling ‘portraits in lighting’ – and their meeting has profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil’s devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings. Because for every cure there is a price…

Warning: Spoilers ahead!!

THE HALLOWEEN REC LIST

With the exception of that one memoir, and a couple comic books, I’ve read nothing but SPN, horror and thriller books this entire month. Why? Because it’s my little way of celebrating Halloween, to make up for the fact that I’ve never been trick or treating my entire life. (;__;)

Somewhere in the middle of all this Halloween reading, it occurred to me that I could compile a list of a few creepy books for you guys to check out during Horror Week. And so, I present to you:

As a supernatural outbreak baffles Scotland Yard and causes protests against the psychic agencies throughout London, Lockwood and Co. continue to demonstrate their effectiveness in exterminating spirits. Anthony is dashing, George insightful, and Lucy dynamic, while the skull in the jar utters sardonic advice from the sidelines. There is a new spirit of openness between the team now that Anthony has shared his childhood story, and Lucy is feeling more and more like her true home is at Portland Row. It comes as a great shock, then, when Lockwood and George introduce her to an annoyingly perky and hyper-efficient new assistant, Holly Munro. Meanwhile, there are reports of many new hauntings, including an old school where bloody handprints and a glowing boy are appearing. But ghosts seem to be the least of Lockwood and Co.’s concerns when a living assassin makes an attempt on Fittes’s and Rotwell’s lives. Can the team get past their interpersonal issues to save the day on all fronts? Danger abounds, tensions escalate, and new loyalties form in this third delightfully terrifying adventure.
