TOP TEN BOOKS I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO FOR THE FIRST HALF OF 2017

ttt

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event created and hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

Do you know how hard it was to pick books that are set to be published BEFORE June 2017? Very. Extremely. Some of my most anticipated books of 2017 aren’t even on this list. I hope you all appreciate the things I do for you.

MY LIST:

1. THE GAUNLET – KARUNA RIAZI

Expected Publication: March 28th

Why this book?
This is a middle-grade magical, steampunk, jumanji book. With a main cast that appears to be diverse. And it has a hijabi on the cover! I want to read this so bad, you have no idea.

I mean. Steampunk jumanji. I am frothing at the mouth.

2. AMINA’S VOICE – HENA KHAN

Expected Publication: March 14th

Why this book?
a) That cover is #3Pretty5Me
b) It’s a book about staying true to your culture while also finding your own voice and discovering who you are as a person.
c) The main character is a young Pakistani-American girl, and it’s a book about celebrating diversity. I mean, does is get any better than this?

3. THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE – ELIZABETH ARDEN

Expected Publication: January 10th

Why this book?
It’s a (reportedly) atmospheric and incredibly well-researched tale about a wild, wilful girl who protects her village armed with the help of a special necklace.
Also, it’s steeped in Russian folklore and has been recommended for fans of Naomi Novik’s Uprooted, so you KNOW I’m gonna be all over this puppy.

4. CARVE THE MARK – VERONICA ROTH

Expected Publication: January 17th

Why this book?
At this point I’ve pretty much accepted that I’ll probably never finish the Divergent series. But this one? This one’s about ALIENS! I am TOTES INTRIGUED.
No, for real. It’s a book about aliens, written by a woman who actually had me thoroughly enjoying her first series (until I got so distanced from it that I started seeing HOLES everywhere, but this is all irrelevant. Veronica Roth writes well.)

5. CARAVAL – STEPHANIE GARBER

Expected Publication: January 31st

Why this book?
a) The blurb sounds wonderful.

b) It’s been compared to The Night Circus (which I haven’t read yet, but really, really, really want to)

c) Apparently there are some Pirates of the Caribbean vibes to it? Idk but I’m here for it.

6. TRAITOR TO THE THRONE – ALWYN HAMILTON

Expected Publication: March 7th

Why this book?
Yes, yes. I know I wasn’t too impressed by the first book, but hey, I’m interested enough to see where this series goes. Isn’t that good enough for ya?

It should be!

7. SILENCE FALLEN (MERCY THOMPSON #10) – PATRICIA BRIGGS

Expected Publication: March 7th

Why this book?
Because I am unapologetic Mercy Thompson trash and MUST HAVE THIS BOOK IN MY PAWS AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.

No, really, what do I have to do to get this book? Cry? Dance around with coyotes? I’ll do it, man. I’ll do it.

8. BLACK MOON (BROKEN SKY#3) – L.A. WEATHERLY

Expected Publication:
March 2017

Why this book?
I’m not done reading the second book, Darkness Follows, of this trilogy yet, but when I do, I know for sure that I’m going to need Black Moon. Stat.

9. MARESI – MARIA TURSCHANINOFF

Expected Publication: January 3rd

Why this book?
The blurb for this sounds absolutely amazing, and the cover just caught my eye.

It’s the translated version of the first book of a Swedish trilogy, and I feel like it’ll be an interesting read. Idk.

10. THE VALIANT  – LESLEY LIVINGSTON

Expected Publication: February 14th

Why this book?
Badass girl gladiators.

I mean, really.

What more do you want?

Really.

What books are you guys most excited to read during the first half of 2017? Are any of my picks on your list? If so, squee with me. If not, show me your picks. My TBR could use a few more titles, I’m sure.

Caraval looks good and I keep getting a pirate vibe when I see it too? And Silence Fallen made my list too… I need to start that series but with that cover art I’ll buy it even if it is like book #10 or whatever lol.

I know what you mean! I think it’s the cover? It looks very… adventure on open seas. Idk why.
Hahaha, omg you HAVE to read the series. Mercy Thompson is very easily one of my favorite adult urban fantasy series. It’s so good. (And yes, that cover is GORGEOUS)

AAAH! I cannot tell you how happy you made me just now. I always get so thrilled when I’m able to, even accidentally, convince someone to read a Diverse Book.
      Thank you for stopping by!

This weeks TTT is really making my to-read pile really HUGE. I love it. There are some really great books and sequels coming out in 2017. I hadn’t heard about the Gauntlet yet. I’ll definitely read that one. I have ARCs for the new Alwyn Hamilton and The Bear and the Nightingale. I’m looking forward to those as well. Happy reading! Great blog too by the way!

Same! I’ve just been hopping from blog to blog and adding new books to my TBR all day. So many titles I’m excited for! Also, I’m super jealous that you got an ARC for The Bear and The Nightingale. My request was denied and I haven’t stopped crying since. I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for stopping by! (and for the compliment. *rolls away*)

I came here because obviously I don’t have a wishlist long as the road to Neptune and obviously need more books I can’t have to salivate over and you’re that girl that has such similar tastes to mine. I had no idea Caraval had pirates now I’m all over it!!!

Hahaha, Oh Dash. Never change. But omg yeah, I didn’t know it had Pirates in it until I saw someone mention it in a review. And then I was 103849 times more excited for it. I NEED IT.

      (also, YAY for similar tastes!)

The Bear and The Nightingale is very easily in the top ten books I’m excited for the whole of 2017. It sounds like a dream. You should add t to your TBR, she suggests, innocently. O:)

Everytime someone tells me they’re interested in Gauntlet and Amina’s Voice, my mood shoots right up to ecstatic. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT.
(omg yes. Caraval’s been on 90% of the blogs I visited)
